The Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) Tool is a specialized hardware and software system used by law enforcement, accident reconstructionists, and vehicle manufacturers to extract and analyze data from event data recorders (EDRs) commonly found in vehicles. This tool can help retrieve valuable information such as vehicle speed, engine throttle, brake application, seatbelt usage, and other data recorded before, during, and after a crash.

CDR simply explained

  • CDR is used to read EDR Data from a vehicle involved in a crash.
  • It is not a “Blackbox”, but an external device connected to the OBD-Connector or directly to the Module in the car

  • CDR 900 can perform readouts via the OBD (J1962) Connector
  • CDR 900 can perform readouts directly from the module using the related module adapter
  • For Modules with Flexray the CDR500 is needed in addition to CDR 900
